Song of the week 23/11/15 – 29/11/15

Once again, I have another song for you and this might be one of the best ones that I’ve picked EVER! (I’ve only being doing this for 8 weeks so that shows how much I rate this choice) anyway the song is ‘Wanna Be Cool’ by Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment, it also features Big Sean, Jeremih and KYLE.

The song is message which promotes just being yourself and whilst it sounds cheesy, as humans that’s something that we all owe ourselves. The second verse is the stand out verse for me since it points out that trying to model yourself to look good to others is irrelevant because in the bigger picture no one cares. At the end of the day everybody has their own personality and what matters is that each person is comfortable with themselves.

Favourite line(s): I don’t wanna be you, I just wanna be me, I don’t wanna be cool, I just wanna be me.

I can’t speak for everyone when I say this, but people have to deal with other people trying to force them to be something that they’re not just because the other person has an image in their head of what said person should be. Really anyone dealing with this should turn around to the person trying to mould them and tell them to fuck off but it’s not always that easy. This is also relevant to a lot of young people who are always trying to follow trends for acceptance even though the lifespan of a trend is a month or so. Outside opinions are always irrelevant and in the long run you’ll be happier if you spend life living by your own rules.

Recommendation on how/when to listen: When you’re feeling down about yourself and believe that you should be what others have said.

Thoughts/review (kinda) on Survivor Series (2015)

Survivor Series happened and to be honest, it was your typical modern Survivor Series. A pretty subpar pay-per-view which makes all wrestling fans question why it’s still one of the big four. TLC is on its way now and the bar hasn’t been raised high, not even moderately.

General thoughts on Survivor Series:

One of the matches that should really matter in this ppv means nothing, 10 people are thrown into an elimination tag match together and fans are expected to accept this just because it’s Survivor Series. This ppv never fails to disappoint, EVER. I’m still trying to figure out why this is, especially given that Survivor Series had one of the biggest events to occur in the history of WWE.

Roman Reigns vs. Alberto Del Rio (WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament)

Winner: Roman Reigns

This match wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. Honestly, if this is what Roman Reigns and Alberto Del Rio are like in the ring together then WWE might want to stay away from this match up. I felt that this match dragged on at points, I understand that wrestlers need to sell moves but at the same time there needs to be a consistent pace and too much selling disturbs that.

Watch or Skip: Skip

Other thoughts: What was the point of the spot where Alberto had Roman Reigns in a tree of woe, ready for a stomp only to clearly miss? That’s really hard not to sell as a botch. WWE really doesn’t have anything planned for Alberto Del Rio do they?

Kevin Owens vs. Dean Ambrose (WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament)

Winner: Dean Ambrose

There wasn’t really anything wrong with this match either. It happened and proceeded smoothly enough but my problem was that I feel that I could have watched an episode of Monday Night Raw and gotten the same match. There wasn’t anything new or inventive about this match and that’s what helps to make a ppv good. Both of these guys are good wrestlers, so that makes it even more disappointing that the match was the quality that it was. For me this was probably the best match as well, which says a lot about this ppv

Watch or Skip: Watch

Other thoughts: Jerry Lawler’s comment about Kevin Owens’ tattoo is honestly the best thing that I’ve heard him say in YEARS.

The Lucha Dragons, The Usos and Ryback vs. The New Day, Sheamus and King Barrett

Winner: The Lucha Dragons, The Usos and Ryback

So this was the annual Survivor Series elimination tag match that WWE pushed so much, that fans were on the edge of their seats for, featuring the 10 most over guys in the most intense storyline at the moment. If you read this thinking, ‘you can’t be serious’ well that’s exactly what I thought about this match. This was definitely meant to be the fun match that brings the crowd to life but I’m not sure that it did that, in fact I’m not even sure what to think of this match. WWE were definitely relying on The New Day to do something to make the match entertaining but you can’t just throw out an interesting team and expecting them to make uninteresting match interesting, the booking team should have at least tried with this match.

Watch or Skip: Skip

Other thoughts: Do 5 vs. 5 traditional Survivor Series tag matches even matter anymore? WWE did well to show that Sheamus had some fight in him before being beaten but in all honesty, Sheamus has needed intensity since he came back. What was going on with Xavier Woods’ hair? Why was The New Day’s theme playing during their promo? Where were they going with their promo? Sheamus’ input literally made me say come on mate. The New Day are heels but they’re relied on a hell of a lot by WWE to pump life into the crowd, something I’m sure that faces are meant to do.

Charlotte (c) vs. Paige (Divas Championship)

Winner: Charlotte

This match wasn’t memorable, in the slightest. I don’t know what happened here, both wrestlers were really off. The fact that they had a better rematch on raw makes this match seem even worse.

Watch or Skip: Skip

Other thoughts: The commentators really need to stop mentioning the divas revolution, it’s done and it kind of failed.

Tyler Breeze vs. Dolph Ziggler

Winner: Tyler Breeze

Watch or Skip: Skip

I have no idea what to think of this match, it was really short and we all know that it’s in a feud that nobody is invested in. I’m sure that Tyler Breeze is a great wrestler but he needs to drop this pretty boy stuff other it’ll become hard to take him seriously (well it already is). If not then he needs to go in another direction with it that doesn’t involve being so flamboyant.

Other thoughts: JBL said that Tyler Breeze would one day be a champion in WWE which was met by a heartfelt LOL from me. When did Tyler Breeze start using the unprettier?

The Brothers of Destruction vs. The Wyatt Family

Winner: The Brothers of Destruction

Watch or Skip: Skip

First things first, if you really thought that The Wyatt Family were going to win this match then shame on you, there was no chance in hell (see what I did there?) This match wasn’t very memorable to me so I’m just going to say it happened.

Other thoughts: I was pleased that the Spanish announce table didn’t survive. I know that Erick Rowan isn’t destined for much in WWE but to have him taken out of the match that early was a bit too much and it doesn’t look good on the Wyatt’s. Are we now meant to act like corporate Kane no longer exists? Undertaker 2 Bray Wyatt 0. WWE can’t keep building up Bray Wyatt only to have him lose the big matches, he may not need a title but he does need significant wins otherwise we’re looking at another Ryback situation.

Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Winner: Roman Reigns

Watch or Skip: It’s the main event so you might as well watch it.

This match felt a lot shorter than it should have been and it was the main event. It was an ok match but what really mattered was the aftermath. Reigns and Ambrose both did their jobs.

Other thoughts: I didn’t think tournament was hard to say but Michael Cole proved me wrong without even trying. Ambrose barely touched Reigns when he powerbombed him off the turnbuckle WTF? A lot of people saw Reigns or Ambrose making a heel turn which would have made no sense and it’s a good thing that none of them made the switch.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Sheamus (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Winner: Sheamus

Watch or Skip: Watch, I guess

Sheamus cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and most people must have seen this coming. Now that it’s happened, let’s sit through it because Sheamus is only a transitional champion (I hope).

Other thoughts: WWE are trying to transfer the heat the Reigns has with the fans to Sheamus but they don’t realise that most people don’t want to see either man with the title, anyway let’s see how this goes. Michael Cole needs to stop saying outta nowhere for moves that aren’t the RKO. Triple H should have pedigreed Roman Reigns.

Song of the week 16/11/15 – 22/11/15

The song this week doesn’t have a name, or at least it doesn’t have an official name so I’m just going to call it Dave’s warm up session for SBTV. Dave pretty much delves into himself, talking about some of the things that he’s been through in his life as well as the thoughts that are a result of the situations that he’s experienced in what is one of the realest songs I’ve heard in a while.

Favourite line(s): I ain’t asking you to ride for shit, the roads are for these hyped up pricks, a couple man’ll die for this

It’s hard for me to believe that he’s 17 because when I was that age, I didn’t have those things on my mind. Just by listening to the song, he seems like someone that would give me a completely new insight on life I talked to him (for a lot people I nod my head whilst telling myself that they’re talking shit). His bars concerning black history touched me, especially given that I’m still trying to learn it. It’s only a matter of time before he’s getting millions of views on his videos and time is on his side.

Recommendation on how/when to listen: I couldn’t even say but to make it simple I think you should just listen.

Quick thoughts on Ben-To

Ben-To is an anime which I’ll admit wasn’t on my radar until I read a review of it by The Otaku Judge (this is the post which I recommend you read). This anime is about a high school student called Yo Sato who along with his friends, Sen Yarizui (The ice witch), Ayame Shaga (The beauty by the lake) and Hana Oshiroi compete for half price lunches with other people known as wolves. He gets roped into that crazy world when one day he realises that he’s broke and decides to buy a half price lunch only to get beaten up, in fact if it happened in real life, this would have been the reaction of most people who witnessed it.

This is one of the funniest anime that I’ve watched so far and when I think about the premise, there’s really no reason not to laugh. This is a fun, light hearted anime which doesn’t seem to have much of a story but that’s fine because it makes up for that with fan service, great fight scenes and comedy. There is an interesting cast of characters however, the show doesn’t do a lot to explore them (something that I assume is handled better in the Light Novel) and as a result it seems like the stories presented in the show are rushed. There were certain elements of battles that I felt received less attention than they should have but I’ll let you watch the show to find out. For 12 episodes, this show definitely did a great job of making the characters likeable, it let me know what I needed to know about the characters such as Hana being a pervert who writes yaoi (this is where a lot of her humour comes from) and has an almost lesbian friendship with Ume Shiraume who is another student or Sen not knowing much about anything outside of half price food battles. I wish that this show had more episodes to really delve into others things though.

This is an anime that you don’t watch for the story. It helps to pay attention but the fight scenes are easily the main attraction of every episode, I can honestly say that watching people fight over food has never looked so epic and I enjoyed the fighting more in this anime than I did in a lot of others that I’ve recently watched (the original Hellsing and Kurozuka to name some). For an anime that looks as if it’s had its story compacted, nothing seems out of place which is amazing and it makes for a great watch when you want to watch something that you don’t want to actively keep up with.

Favourite scene: Every fight is my favourite scene

One reason that I took to this anime so well is because I could imagine something like this happening in real life. When I was at university and I went shopping, I always made sure to check the reduced prices section for food (life of a student) and there were so many people lurking around there just like the wolves. The fight scenes immediately reminded me of my secondary school days where people in my year group used to play this “game” called scramble, where somebody would throw some money on the floor and we would all try to get the money whilst fighting off other people, needless to say a few people got hurt but it was fun.

Other thoughts: Fan service, so much fan service. I was very confused at the twins given that both of their names were Kyo Sawagi (I understand that the characters are different but I have a very limited understanding of the Japanese language). There was a character called brunette and I don’t know if I ever saw her face, even worse I’m not sure if it matters. The soundtrack to this show was smooth, I can’t complain. I know that anime is perverted but seeing Ayame flirt with Yo whilst knowing that their cousins was too weird (and wrong) and that’s not the worst that this show did. I’m sure that Monk is based on Krillin.

Recommendation: I think all anime fans 14 and over can watch this and enjoy it. I don’t know if this is an official gateway anime like Death Note but I would definitely recommend this to someone for their first anime.

Song of the week 9/11/15 – 15/11/15

It was hard to choose a song this week, sometimes music won’t particularly stand out to you, so with that being said the song that stood out to me the most was ‘All That Matters’ by Stormzy. This is a cover of Justin Bieber’s song by the same name and yes it’s still a love but for me everything works well together. The instrumental is slightly changed from the one that Bieber used but it’s still really soft for a Grime artist. It’s not overly amazing but to me it sounds good on the ears.

Favourite line(s): Look at you with your bad self

I’ll admit, my favourite line from this song is far from the deepest line but sometimes this happens. Like many other songs of the week (I hope) this song is just a good one to vibe out to and that’s just as important as hearing some seriously thought provoking stuff. Anyway enjoy.

Recommendation on how/when to listen: When you want to embrace your soft side. If you’re a soft person then all the time.

I’m not able to do anything about it, other than show support by hashtagging #prayforparis which sucks but I do hope that this doesn’t escalate to an unnecessary level (which it probably will). To think that Paris was targeted and lives were lost, it’s definitely put a lot of Parisians on alert because they’re not sure what will follow, in fact no one will except for the attackers.

In all this, I will say that I feel really sorry for Muslims in Paris and worldwide since they’ll be getting a lot of hate for the actions of a few. I can’t really explain it myself but the tweet below explains what I’m trying to say better.

I saw a video of Kanye West the other day and it got me thinking. Kanye is a producer that is known to sample songs in the songs that he makes, in fact a lot of producers sample songs in the beats that they make but I’ve noticed that some people don’t respect sampling. I hear and see comments that say that sampling is ripping off music, it contributes to some overproduced bullshit or the very worst one that a producer isn’t very good if they use this method (I’m not a producer and even I know this is BS).

(Most) Samples sound very similar to the original song which no one is going to argue but that’s the point (or at least I thought it was) and it’s not a bad thing either. Sampling is a bridge between generations when you think about it. A lot of songs use samples of songs that were made decades prior so already the fanbase that the sampled song is aimed at will have no idea of the original song and that’s a chance for them to listen to it and understand what their parents were listening to (if they do the research of course). For some people you’d think that a sampled song would be a throwback. Even when looking at the success of some songs, you’ll see that they bring the song that they sampled back into the limelight for a little bit. I don’t think anyone can tell me that when they heard “Stronger” by Kanye West they didn’t want to listen to “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” by Daft Punk.

One really great thing about sampling is that it allows a song to be reinvented for a younger generation so really it contributes to the legacy of the original song (as long as the song is good). With the way music is, it’s always had its critics which is why I can understand some of the comments that people make but at the same time it does look as if sampling gets an unfair reputation. Of course this is just my thought though.

Fucked up shit on Twitter vol. 7

I offer you some more fucked up shit that is less fucked up than last month but with that being said, I have no idea where to start so… In fact before I even do that, I have to shout all of you guys who have been following Fucked up shit on Twitter (and not reporting me), personally I think the world needs more people who can see the humour in scumbaggery, you’d be surprised at the people who get offended by this stuff.

If you’re wondering what that is, the owner made his cat eat its own shit.

The woman’s face is enough for that to be fucked up.

Finally I leave you with this…

I wanted to show what happens when someone doesn’t understand the scumbaggery but… The tweets were deleted 😦

Some questions for anime fans

I have a few questions for anime fans. These questions used to float around in my head but I didn’t pay too much attention to them until I read two posts by Cross-shishou which inspired me to write this (I recommend them so here’s one and here’s the other). I know about anime fandom to an extent and I understand how it can influence people but sometimes, just sometimes I have to facepalm at some of the stuff I’ve seen; some people take anime way too seriously and I still can’t understand why, anyway I’ll just get on with questions.

Why do people argue about subs and dubs?

Seriously does this even matter? Fans argue about subs and dubs religiously because apparently watching one is a rite of passage and watching the other makes more sense because it’s in a language that you understand or something stupid like that. It doesn’t make any sense to me because whether you watch anime subbed or dubbed IT’S STILL THE SAME SHIT, you’re still going to see the SAME SCENES, it’s just that it’s two different languages. Arguing about a viewing preference doesn’t make sense to me (I know I’ve already said this and I have to repeat it), the way that I see it, it’s like arguing about watching The Simpsons on Sky One instead of Channel 4 just because… (it’s an out there reference, I know, but you get the point). In case you were wondering what my preference is, it’s subs.

Why do people speak Japanonsense?

Watching subbed anime will teach you a little bit of Japanese which is cool but there’s a limit. I can understand using Japanese terms here and there but it’s really stupid when you’re mixing in English with Japanese and churning out something that no one understands (If you read the recommended post then you’ll have a better understanding of what I’m saying here). Credit to anime fans who want to pick up Japanese as a language but don’t mix it with another language otherwise people will just think you’re a weeaboo and they get definitions like this.

Why do people bash another series when their favourite series comes under fire?

I understand if people love an anime series with a passion but, there comes a point where some people will defend their favourite series so much that they start bashing on other series (I’m pretty sure One Piece fans do this to Fairy Tail). If you like a series, then you like it and really that should be the end of it because not everyone is going to like that same series. Personally my favourite series is Fullmetal Alchemist but if someone tells me that they hate Edward Elric, I’m not going to go and argue about how he’s a better main character than Natsu or Ichigo, I’ll accept the opinion because said person is entitled to one. Generally getting butthurt because someone doesn’t like a series as much as you do is one of the dumbest things you could do, some people can defend series with their lives as if the main character is going to spring to life and fight on their behalf. It’s not that deep, it’s never been that deep and it’ll never be that deep.

Some of these traits can make anime fans interesting but at the same time, it’s part of the reason why people think we’re weird when we’re not.

I’d like to know what your take on these questions are if you have any.
