TYBG (Thank you Based God) is real. A lot of people look down on Lil B the Based God’s music probably because they can’t understand the style of rapping or they just say that it’s shit. That isn’t something that I’m fully going to address in the post (I might not even address it, let’s see where this post goes), I might have tackled it in another post on this blog, I’m not sure to be honest. Anyway, back to TYBG; I say this because Lil B taught me something that is really relevant to moving forward in life.
Lil B has shown that you don’t need to be the best at what you do, you don’t even need to be particularly good at it in order to be successful. He has a very strong fan base that allows him to charge $100,000 for an appearance (or at least he did at one point) despite the fact that quite a lot of his songs show that his rapping ability isn’t of the same level as a rapper like Kendrick Lamar, who could get away with charging that much. You just need to be very smart about what you do, if you’re great at marketing yourself then your ability doesn’t really matter too much as long as it’s passable.
Lil B has received attention from many rappers (some of which might actually be your favourite) as well as sportsmen and news broadcasters, even making his way into pop culture. The funniest part of that, is that he’s received that attention because of his divisive music, he may not be as good as other rappers (an opinion that is not shared by everyone) but he is a lot smarter than them and he’s generally a lot smarter than people give him credit for (also an opinion that is not shared by everyone).
There are a lot of people out there chasing their dreams and have probably spent years refining their craft whilst still not experiencing the kind of success that Lil B has experienced. It just goes to show that if you’re one of those people that feel you’re not as successful as you should be then you just need to find the right way to market yourself.
Other than the great marketing, Lil B has also shown that doing the outrageous works even if people question it.
