Rap beef is pretty cool don’t you think? Rather than going to a (maybe secluded) location to have a fight, rappers flex their lyrical skills over a beat (sometimes acapella) and rip each other up. Whoever came up with the concept of a rap battle/rap beef most definitely deserves a knighthood or something or high prestige because it’s only served to increase the overall face of rap and hip-hop music.
When you (when I) think about it, rap beef is a civilised version of fighting which can have benefits for both parties (sometimes). It can boost a rappers profile greatly but at the same time it can ruin a rappers career so in that case it’s a bit of a double-edged sword; with that being said, it still doesn’t take away from how awesome rap beef is.
If it weren’t for beef then we would have missed out on some of the greatest and most vicious songs and lyrics to have ever graced hip-hop (FACT). It would also take away from a very entertaining aspect of rap/hip-hop culture, at the end of the day nobody likes something that is boring and full of people who try their hardest not to hurt each other’s feelings.
The only time that rap beef sucks is when it gets overly physical.
One of the best diss tracks ever!
